Message Your positive battery terminal has a constant 12V...ie 12 volts of potential with respect to ground. So, if you ground it, current will flow. If you sawed your terminal off, you could ground it without current flowing, as it would have no potential present. You'd then need to connect it to + for current to flow.

The injector is an open circuit until it fires. Think of it as having a wire straight from ground and a wire straight from + but not connected yet. Except, the chassis serves as a big ground wire.

The injector mod severs the wire from +, so there is no +12V potential at the injector. The circuit is now broken TWICE. The new break is actually a switched connection, so when the vehicle has power it is closed and the injector is back to having +12 potential (ie + and - wire, but not touching yet...just like stock). The old break is closed when the injector fires.
